Enjoy it, enjoy YOURSELF!

I just escaped to Madrid on my birthday. With whom?
With the best company I could imagine!
MYSELF!

Was I happy? Hell, yeah!
How many people still asked me before, during and after my trip why I was travelling alone and how confused they looked when I said that I wanted it that way and not otherwise.

To be alone is one of the most beautiful things for me!
I think many people believe being alone is the same as loneliness. I don’t talk  about becoming a hermit.
But it’s one of the most beautiful and liberating feelings when you realize that you don’t need anything or anyone to be happy and that lasting joy comes from within YOU! Far too often we predicate on certain conditions, on external circumstances, material things and people.
To be alone and especially to travel alone means so much freedom! You can do exactly what YOU want.
At the same time you get closer to yourself while being abroad. Suddenly you have no more distractions, you become more aware of what is happening around you and you are living in THIS MOMENT (of course a vacation from your mobile phone would also be recommendable!).
When you realize that you have mastered all the challenges you come across on your journey, you gain courage, trust and love for yourself.

The trip to Madrid was my birthday gift to myself and I enjoyed every moment – no, I ENJOYED ME! I know that sounds pretty weird to many, but why?
Why do we give something to our loved ones on their birthday, but nothing to the most important person in our life – OURSELF?
Why don’t you give it a try? Whether something material or a journey or just a nice candlelight dinner for one, no matter what 🙂
A friend of mine told me that she even wraps her gift and opens it excitedly on her birthday. It always exactly suited her taste somehow  🙂

And my roommates still laugh at me, because I once celebrated alone in my room with a bottle of red wine, the movie dirty dancing and an own dance session after my date was cancelled. 😀

I didn’t know how to deal with being alone from the beginning on. There were so many moments I felt weak, lonely or helpless. But it’s like every habit. The more often you dare to do something by yourself, the easier it will gets!
Start with something small – but start! It will be worth it!!!

I’d love to read your comments about whether you were already traveling alone once and how you liked it 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Tara
